Calendar Final2

About Calgary

Weather

The weather can change quickly in Calgary so have a coat or a fleece ready most of the time, especially in the evening. We are expecting great weather Monday and Tuesday 25 and 27 degrees. (bet that scared you, 77 to 80 deg. F) 12 at night or 54 F.

Where to Eat In Calgary

From the hotel you have numerous choices.

Straight north on 1st St takes you to China town, excellent dim sum at the Silver Dragon. On 8th Ave there are numerous types and styles to try.

The Wednesday Room and Klein/Harris are excellent choices. Also behind the hotel is the Beltline (10th to 12th Aves between Center and 10 the St.) and a large number of clubs and restaurants.

There is also the original RED MILE of hockey playoff fame along 17th Ave SW. Also north on 1st St you will arrive at Princes’s Island our downtown park on the river.

Be adventurous, Calgary is a relatively safe city. You can walk most everywhere although we do not recommend walking along the river area after dark. Call the usual 911 for emergencies.

Questions? Contact Alison Cody at 404-434-5206 or acody@mafsi.org or Stacey Morken at 612-801-5869 or smorken@mafsi.org.

Discover Banff & Its Wildlife Tour

Watch the VideoDiscover Banff Video Skin

Uncover the secrets of a historic mountain haven with a local guide leading the way as you gaze at stunning views and visit Banff’s key landmarks on a luxury bus.

Build a connection to our World Heritage Site as you visit Banff’s landmarks, learn its history and view wildlife in their natural winter habitat.

The tour by luxury mini coach will include some of the most scenic and historically significant highlights of Banff such as the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Bow Falls, Surprise Corner Lookout, Hoodoos Viewpoint and Lake Minnewanka. Plus, enjoy hot chocolate or fresh water (depending on the time of year) and maple cookies at one of the scenic stops. It’s a complete orientation to Banff and a great tour for seeing wildlife in the morning!

The best parts of the tour for most people include the following:

  1. Bow Falls - Water crashes over ancient limestone creating a spectacle of sound and sight.
  2. The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel - The ‘Castle of the Rockies’ is the railway’s contribution to the building of Canada.
  3. Surprise Corner Lookout - See a higher view of Bow Falls and the majestic Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.
  4. Hoodoos Viewpoint - What is a hoodoo? Understand the lay of the land as you look out over the Bow Valley.
  5. Lake Minnewanka - Learn about an underwater village and native history with a pleasant break at Banff National Park’s largest lake.

What's Included?

  • Private luxury min-coach bus for MAFSI attendees only
  • Hotel pick up and drop off at Rimrock Resort
  • Professional certified guide
  • Hands on interpretive tools

Is there a lot of walking involved?
Only half your time is spent on the bus, and at every stop you will have the opportunity to get off the bus and stretch your legs. All of the viewpoints are a short walk.

Will I see wildlife on the tour?
There is a chance of seeing wildlife on the tour and we often spot animals, however we do not guarantee seeing wildlife on any of our tours. Our guides have a lot of knowledge about the animals within the park and can fill you in about them if you see any wildlife or if you have any questions.

Rocky Mountain Raft Tours

Rocky Mountain Raft Tours offers scenic guided float trips on the Bow River within Banff National Park. Families, seniors and children are all welcome to join (10 kilos to 150 kilos).

Our large 25 passenger rafts are customized with elevated wood floorboards, so your shoes even stay dry! This is not a whitewater trip. No big splashes or waves crash into the boat and there are no rapids on this trip. There is a very slight possibility that a rogue splash could throw a small amount of water up the side of the raft tubes.

Our guests often bring cameras and mobiles to capture the dramatic scenery as they float by. Please dress for the weather of the day and we recommend warm casual clothing as appropriate for our tours. We will issue life jackets for each passenger to wear.

Our shuttle bus will bring you back to the starting point. Our team work exceptionally hard to create a high quality experience and when warranted, gratuities are graciously accepted. A professional photographer on site will capture your majestic mountain adventure.

The Tour
Join us for an extraordinary wilderness sightseeing experience on the famous Bow River. We launch at the base of Bow Falls near the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course. During our river journey, we travel approximately 7 km down the Bow River past Bow Falls encountering excellent views of Sleeping Buffalo, Cascade and Tunnel Mountains. The natural scenery is fantastic with water birds and wild flowers being abundant on the banks of the river. We occasionally spot wildlife too!

We float past the Hoodoos and land the rafts at the towering north face of Mount Rundle. Our shuttle bus will return you to your starting point on a scenic ten-minute mountain meadow drive. You will see and experience the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains and this gentle float tour is the perfect way to intimately encounter this natural mountain beauty!

Horseback Ride - Spray River

Breathe in the pine-spiced mountain air as you approach the Bow Falls. You’ll also pass by the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course on this ride – one of the most immaculately manicured courses in Canada.

Continue along the edge of the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course, and cross through the waters once more. A partial climb up Sulphur Mountain brings you through a wooded residential area and back to the corrals.

The most unique feature of this trip is crossing the Spray River. On hotter days, your horse may even decide to cool itself off by splashing water onto its belly – it’s an experience unlike anything else.

Your guides will lead you past roaring Bow Falls where you will cross the tranquil Spray River, followed by a partial climb up Sulphur Mountain.

Passport Requirements: Travel documents for non-Canadians entering Canada

Citizens and permanent residents of the United States

It is recommended to have a valid passport with an expiration date that is 3 months past your travel dates.

Citizens of the United States need a valid U.S. passport to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport.

Citizens of the United States coming to Canada by car, bus, train or boat need to carry proper identification and meet the basic requirements to enter Canada.

Citizens of the United States who are also Canadian citizens should bring a valid Canadian passport and a valid U.S. passport or travel document to board a flight from the Unites States to Canada. Carrying both documents may help simplify both your entry into Canada and your return to the United States.

Permanent residents of the United States need a valid Alien Registration Card and a passport to enter Canada.

Dual citizens

Dual Canadian citizens need a valid Canadian passport to board a flight to, or transit through, Canada by air.

If your other country of citizenship needs you to enter and exit that country using a passport issued by its government, you will still need a valid Canadian passport to board your flight to Canada. Make sure you carry both passports when you travel.

If you are planning to visit Canada, Destination Canada provides information about planning a trip, from booking resources to getting around while you are here. It also has information on where to go and what to see and do, so you can make the most of your stay.
